The Recipe for Reading: Pre-literacy skills to prevent reading struggles for Early Childhood educators

This workshop is for anyone who works in Early Childhood – Kindergarten teachers with struggling emerging readers, educators in Early Childhood centres, educators working in a home environment or parents with pre-school-aged children.

The workshop will equip you to provide stimulating and developmentally appropriate pre-reading activities to give your children a solid skill base in literacy. It’s not teaching reading, but teaching the skills kids need to know before they start learning to read.

Studies show that children who have a good base of pre-literacy skills learn to read more easily and make further progress than those who arrive at school without them.

You don’t need a special qualification or degree to implement these skills – you just need to care about the future of the children in your care. The steps are simple, easy to follow and can be implemented straight away. The necessary materials are provided for you and only require a little preparation.
